Meet our founders

Davina Fankhauser

Co-Founder and Executive Director

Davina Fankhauser, the foremost expert on policy related to benefits for fertility treatment and preservation, advises patients and professionals on how to effectively communicate with insurers, employers, and legislators to increase access to health benefits. Davina and Fertility Within Reach’s evidence-based information is sought after at both patient and professional conferences. She formerly managed the online services for RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and as Advocacy Director for AllPaths Family Buidling. Davina proudly served as the first female, non-medical professional elected President of the New England Fertility Society. She is a New England Fertility Society board member, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center NICU Parent Advisory Council, and the America Bar Association Family Law Section Legislative Committee. Davina is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.

Having experienced immeasurable loss while struggling with infertility for over a decade, Davina knew her suffering was drawn out because she couldn’t afford the health care required to treat their disease. A purpose to her pain existed whenever she worked to ensure no one had to share the same fate. She felt determined to do everything in her power to change policy and stop the heartbreak and injustice associated with being denied the opportunity to access treatment.

Sandra O’Keefe

Co-Founder

Sandra is a Certified Wellness Coach and Healthcare Professional with experience in chronic disease management, health and wellness coaching, regulatory processes, quality assurance, contract development, implementation, and compliance. She is recognized as a perseverant and multifarious individual with high standards of quality and integrity.

Sandra has been an infertility advocate for twelve years. She previously served as the Vice President on the Resolve of New England Board of Directors. She has lobbied at the Massachusetts State House and testified before legislative committees on the need for infertility insurance coverage changes. Sandra has participated in RESOLVE’s Annual National Advocacy Day, where she has traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with state senators and house representatives on the need for nationwide infertility insurance coverage and adoption tax credit.

Fortunate to live in the state of Massachusetts, where an insurance mandate for infertility treatment exists, Sandra was able to utilize benefits to access treatment and is the proud mother of two children. One of her major passions is connecting people in the infertility world with one another using the Internet, especially through social media channels.
